Studio profile

The design studio YHD develops and designs both client-specific projects and its own products in the studio workshop. Through the haptic and experimental approach, materials and processes are explored in greater depth. Projects often begin with simple questions. In doing so, it's important to make connections between people, environment, and objects tangible, to spark curiosity and enthusiasm, and to incorporate insights gained through experiments into design concepts. Design functions as a tool through which these connections and insights can be integrated into everyday life and society. When we shape and form our lives with products, these should be well-designed (sustainable, circular, social, meaningful, and enjoyable to use) in order to have a positive impact.

Yvette Hoffmann – Designer and Maker

“I see myself more as a design craftsperson. In my work as a designer, the focus is on everyday objects that people intuitively enjoy using, whether tableware, furniture, or print media. As a craftsperson, I experiment and explore, in the sense of ‘understanding by doing,’ various topics, different materials, as well as new and old techniques. For me, design is a tool with which one can create a good environment and positively influence people.”

„It‘s less about owning things and more about the joy of using them—that you intuitively reach for them because you want to use them. You don‘t quickly throw away things you like to use. That, too, is a form of sustainability.“

Yvette Hoffmann studied product design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and founded her design studio in Stuttgart in 2011. In addition to client commissions, self-initiated projects, and experiments, she collaborates with companies, other creatives, and experts across various design fields.
