Concrete cigar ashtray

The concrete-cast cigar ashtray "Cuba" was designed for Loony GmbH. The monolith is composed of simple geometric forms. The heavy, rough concrete ashtray creates a contrast to the light, usually hand-rolled cigar. The longer the concrete can cure in a very smooth mold, the smoother and more glossy its surface becomes. The different aggregates (coarse and fine) as well as the deliberately allowed air pockets break through the smooth surface.

Loony-Design emerged from the Diakonisches Werk Baden. The objects developed for Loony were designed to be manufacturable by people with special needs—in terms of material, form, and production technique.
